Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Working with all stake holders ensure that the Wild Life Protection Committee I founded continues to develop policies that protect wildlife including nesting and migratory birds and marine mammals.
  • Working with all stake holders ensure that the Climate Change Resiliency Committee I founded completes Surfers Beach Sand Replenishment, continues improving harbor water quality, and develops a policy on Climate Change preparedness.
  • Complete a Strategic Plan that is fiscally responsible and considers the needs of San Mateo County residents and the recreational and commercial communities that depend on its harbors.

Profesión:Harbor Commissioner/Biologist
Commissioner, San Mateo County Harbor District — Cargo elegido (2017–2018)

Actividades comunitarias

Board Member, Committee For Green Foothills (2012–current)
Blue Water Task Force Team Leader, Surfrider Foundation San Mateo County Chapter (2002–current)

As a San Mateo County Harbor Commissioner, I initiated and chair both the Wildlife Protection and Climate Change Resiliency committees. I utilize my scientific and advocacy skills to restore and protect the natural environments of our harbors and improve their commercial and public serving facilities.

As a research scientist, I conducted oceanographic studies of Northern California coastal waters and, working in biotechnology, led a multinational team of scientists developing biofuels.

My love for the ocean started as a child enjoying California beaches with my family sailing, scuba diving and surfing.  During my college years, I spent summers working in commercial fishing and delivering yachts. These positions taught me the value of public access and ocean protection and are why, as Chair of the San Mateo Chapter of Surfrider Foundation, I started our water quality testing lab.  Surfrider has contributed to improved water quality at San Mateo County beaches and streams for over 16 years, and under my leadership, is recognized for its long history and commitment to advocating for public access and environmental protection.

I would be honored to receive your vote.

Thank you,

Ed Larenas

"Ed has been an effective Harbor Commissioner and passionate environmental advocate.  Under his leadership the district has made significant progress on water quality, wildlife protection and climate change preparedness." Don Horsley, Supervisor District 3, San Mateo County

Sierra Club Endorsement

"Ed Larenas ran for this seat 2 years ago and finished as the impressive top vote getter--and no wonder.  Ed has an excellent background as the longtime leader of the San Mateo Surfrider Chapter and he is justifiably famed for several environmental victories-both politically and legally.  Among his prior accomplishments is the establishment of a Coastside sea-water testing lab not far from the Mavericks surfing area that has been operated by volunteers for 15 continuous years.  On the District board he is the steady voice of environmental science - exactly what we expected from him.  Please reelect Ed Larenas
