Biografía

I grew up in South San Francisco and have been part of the community for over 30 years. I attended South San Francisco’s public schools, starting with Los Cerritos Elementary School, then Alta Loma Middle School, and graduated from South San Francisco High School in 1998. I graduated from San Francisco State University in 2003 with a Bachelors degree in History and Political Science. I played baseball from Little League to high school in our neighborhood parks, and in 2014, I was inducted into the South San Francisco High School Baseball Hall of Fame. South San Francisco instilled in me the important values of listening to diverse opinions, helping neighbors in need, and giving back to your community.

My wife Amy and I wanted to make South San Francisco our home to raise our two young children Aidan and Josephine. Like many families in South San Francisco, owning a home seemed like an unattainable dream. Moving out of the community that I loved since childhood seemed inevitable. However, thanks to a first-time homebuyers program, my family was able to stay in South San Francisco.

I have never forgotten the struggles that my family went through, like others are today. I have used this experience to fuel my passion for supporting working-class families. As Senior Aide to former Assemblymember Gene Mullin, and Constituent Services Director for Congresswoman Jackie Speier, I’ve assisted seniors, veterans, families, and children, including recovering over $5 million in veterans’ benefits. As South San Francisco Planning Commissioner, I’ve advocated for affordable housing, smart development, and traffic reduction. As a former Parks and Recreation Commissioner, I spearheaded the popular "Movie in the Park" program, renovated several parks, and maintained affordable services. If elected, I will continue to make these issues a priority on South San Francisco's City Council.

Together, we can bring a new voice to South San Francisco. I ask for your vote on November 6. Please visit marknagales.com to learn more.
