Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Create amazing and beautiful schools where all students have the confidence and skills to succeed, within a district that empowers the entire community to live out their purpose driven passions.
  • Listen to the community, represent your voice, and be accountable to all stakeholders for the success of our children.
  • Create a culture that is collaborative that respects and works with everyone towards solutions and supports and excites our students, staff, and families to be part of the district.

I believe all children are wonderfully and beautifully made. They are perfect. It is our job to ensure that they have the experiences, tools, and opportunity to fulfill their passion, purpose, and potential.

I understand the impact that great education can have on a person's life. I have seen firsthand the positive ripple effect it can have on many following generations. I want to foster that legacy and help all families gain access to the human and technical resources that will help them live a live of happiness and wellness, deep learning, and amazing opportunitity.

I am thankful for the opportunity to be considered as a representative of our community voice and serve trustee on the school board.

I grew up in Dallas, Texas in a small area of the city called “Bonton.” Bonton is in the southern part of Dallas, and it is an area that is plagued by historically segregating and discriminatory policies, and faces many economic and social disparities compared to the other parts of Dallas.

I attended public school kindergarten through twelfth grade, and graduated as salutatorian of my high school, Talented and Gifted Magnet. I attended Stanford University as a first generation college student and was the first in my family to graduate college.

While at Stanford and in the 20 years following, I worked and volunteered at many organizations in the Ravenswood area. East Palo Alto and Belle Haven remind me a lot of my home in Dallas and I’ve been blessed to have so many people here become my extended family.

Local organizations I’ve worked with include: Plugged In, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, Live In Peace, Cesar Chavez, East Palo Alto Academy High School, Eastside College Prep, Level Playing Field, The Primary School, Center for a New Generation, Mural Music & Arts Project, Summer Math and Science Honors Academy, Stanford University, Bing Nursery School, and StreetCode Academy.

I currently work at StreetCode Academy where I provide free tech, entrepreneurial, and design education to youth and their families. My goal is to support families who want to use technology as a tool to advance their learning, career and business opportunities, and community.

For fun I sing in a 14-piece roots reggae band based in East Palo Alto. Rafa - which means "to heal” - believes music is a powerful tool for both personal and social uplift and is committed to producing and performing music for that purpose.

I've been happily married to my husband, Olatunde Sobomehin, for 14 years, who also has worked in the Ravenswood area for the past 20 years, and we have four hilarious children  - Olatayo - 8th grade; Temilola - 7th grade; Tatiola - 6th grade; and Olataiye - 1st grade.

I understand the challenges of attending schools that are under-resourced. I understand  what it takes to overcome adversity, envision success, and work for it with all you’ve got. I am the first person in my family to attend and graduate college - Stanford University. I believe my personal story will resonate with many people here, and I want to use it to encourage and support others.

I have gained so much experience in creating positive and popular culture, building community, and strategic product planning that will be necessary to help drive home solutions for our district. I have worked with over 22 education and youth development organizations over the past 20 years and I am well versed in the type of activity it will take to lead and manage the district.

I courageously live by my values. I live my life in a way that considers impact not only on myself, but on others as well. I respect the perspective and experiences of people, look for the good in all of us, and I intentionally engage with people in ways that will facilitate positivity and growth. I approach action and decisions with integrity and I believe in working collaboratively, despite differences of opinion.

Filosofía política

I was endorsed by organizations and many community leaders and residents over the course of my campaign: The Assistant Dean of Stanford University's School of Education, The San Mateo County Central Committee Democrats, the DemFems, The Ravenswood Teachers Association, teachers at the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy, members of the StartX community, Talented & Gifted Magnet High School (the #1 public high school is the US), the former mayor of East Palo Alto, school principals, nonprofit organization directors, and parents of our Ravenswood students.

I believe that we must all work together to overcome the huge challenges that face our community's district, as well as the system of public education across our nation. l believe 100% in educational equity for all students, no matter where you live, and we need to hold our government responsible for this.

I plan to advocate for legislative change on th federal, state, and local levels to support the nation's right to adequate free public education. I will rally for government to amend how our schools are funded in order to ensure actual financial resouces provided equals actual costs of operation.

I will also engage philanthropists, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations to leverage opportunities and local resources that will help support the mindset, skills, and network our students need to excel in life, school, and career.  Specifically, I want to concentrate efforts around providing equitable salaries and benefits to teachers and school staff; ensure all our facilities are safe and beautiful and encourage an environment of curiosity, design, and exploration; make our school sites the community hub for multi-generation supports that all invest in the whole being - emotional, mental, and physical - of every student.

Thank you so much for this opportunity.
