Biografía
Hello, I’m Rick Jones, currently on the City Council and running for re-election.
I have been a Fremont resident for nearly forty years, and my wife’s family has been here for several generations. I have dedicated all of that time to serving our community; first as a Police Officer for 29 years, including 9 years as the School Resource Officer at Washington High School. I also taught Traffic School and Driver’s Education at the Adult School for 12 years; coached at Kennedy High School for 5 years; and served 2 years on Fremont’s Planning Commission before being elected to City Council in 2014.
We have accomplished a lot over the last 4 years, but still have a lot of work to do.
I’m running for re-election to continue that work and keep Fremont a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
I have three important priorities: Affordable housing, homelessness, and infrastructure improvements.
The Bay Area is in desperate need of housing at all levels, but especially affordable housing for our lower income residents and our senior population. We need to focus on linking higher density housing to areas around BART, ACE, and AC Transit and invest in the infrastructure of public transit. We are losing an entire generation of young people who cannot afford a place of their own, as well as a growing senior population looking to downsize.
In the last few years, Fremont has also seen an increase in our homeless population. We have implemented several programs and allocated funding to provide much needed services, but need to work on sustainable regional solutions so that we do not exhaust our limited resources.
Traffic and infrastructure improvements are also projects that we have been working on; such as supporting an express lane on I680 from Fremont to Sunol, upgrading to a smart signals system, and identifying funding for a grade separation on Mission Blv between I880 and I680 to keep commuters on the freeways and relieve congestion on city streets.
There is still lot of work to do and I would be honored to have your endorsement and support so that I can to continue to be part of the solution to these and other issues.
Let's keep Fremont the safest, happiest place to live.
