Biografía
Steve Stenberg is a life-long Chula Vistan. His father, Sherman, was an Assistant City Manager from 1964-68. His mother, Joan, retired in 1990 after 26 years in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. Steve graduated from Southwestern Community College with a degree in Criminology in 1982.
As a firefighter and military veteran with over 30 years of service, Steve learned the importance of teamwork and being able to handle tasks on his own or as part of a group. His experiences demanded integrity and skilled decision-making when lives are at risk. He believes in doing the right thing and admitting when he’s wrong.
Steve’s most recent venture was opening the Third Avenue Alehouse, a family-owned craft beer business on Third Avenue in the heart of Downtown Chula Vista. Steve and his business partners employ nearly a dozen Chula Vista residents. With community support, Third Avenue Alehouse received the Mayor’s Award for Neighborhood Revitalization from Mayor Mary Casillas Salas.
Encouraging new businesses to locate in Chula Vista will help the city grow economically and help residents find jobs in the city in which they live. He is in favor of bringing a university to Chula Vista and cooperating with property owners in a way that benefits both higher education and nearby residents.
Like many Chula Vistans, Steve eagerly awaits continued progress on the bayfront. With the power plant gone and a substation relocated, he sees the Port of San Diego’s moving dirt as a sign that RIDA Development can achieve agreements that the Port, the city and the California Coastal Commission approved.
Longtime residents know from living here that this city is a great place in which to live, raise our families and enjoy our grandchildren. With a strong mix of good housing, shopping and restaurants, parks and biking/walking paths, Steve is prepared to take his experiences in public safety and as a business owner to keep Chula Vista safe and help the local economy grow.

As Councilmember, Steve will work to improve public safety so that our families will continue to enjoy safe neighborhoods and schools. He will work to provide the necessary support to police and fire so they are able to do their jobs. Currently, there are only eight school resource officers (SRO's) spread out between 61 schools in Chula Vista. Steve Stenberg will work to increase the number of SRO's, so that all of our children can learn and grow in safe and protected schools. By adding more firefighters and police officers, we improve response times during times of crisis. Growing Our Local Economy After retiring as a firefighter, Steve opened his small family business right in the heart of Downtown Chula Vista on Third Avenue. Today, Third Avenue Alehouse employs nearly a dozen people and received the Neighborhood Revitalization Award from Mayor Mary Casillas Salas.
Steve will strive to bring quality jobs to Chula Vista and make economic development a top priority. Good jobs translate into increased local revenue to city services. Steve will work with the City to streamline the process of opening a new business in Chula Vista. He will look at current fees and regulations with the goal of lightening the burden on new business owners. Quality City Services & Northwest Chula Vista's Fair Share A life-long Chula Vistan, Steve grew up in Chula Vista and attended local schools. He and his wife, Dr. Melinda Stenberg, a Sweetwater School District employee, raised their family in Chula Vista.
Steve will work to ensure our city streets and parks are maintained and pledges that our tax dollars will be spent on the areas that will most benefit the community. Steve will ensure Chula Vista remains a great place to live, work, and raise our families.

Strengthen & Increase Public Safety
Public Safety staffing and the need for more police officers and firefighters.
Economic Development & Supporting Local Businesses
Fostering economic development and supporting local businesses in Chula Vista.
Fostering economic development in Chula Vista is crucial to our city's well being. Attracting large and small businesses increases revenue and helps pay for increased city services, such as police and fire, parks and recreation, public works, sewers, street and sidewalk repairs. Starting more businesses creates positions for our citizens to work at, thereby reducing joblessness and poverty. Small businesses such as ours breathes life into our community.
When others warned against the idea of opening a new business on Third Avenue, my family and I opened a business there, helping to spark the revitalization of Downtown Chula Vista's Third Avenue Village. For our hard work, we were awarded the" Mayor's Award for Neighboorhood Revitalization" by Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. Chula Vista needs someone like myself that can foster new businesses and build employment oppurtunities like we have done for our employees at the Third Avenue Alehouse. Using that same visionary drive, I will push hard to also revitalize the rest of west Chula Vista, which includes Broadway. We will work to improve our business districts, and build a bicycle and pedestrian friendly Broadway for our families and tourists to enjoy. Along those same lines, guiding the redevelopment of F Street, from the Bayfront to Third Avenue, is crucial to bringing guests to Third Avenue and from Third Avenue to the Bayfront hotel and businesses. The Bayfront project will launch in 2019 which is located in District 2. I will watch it closely to ensure it is finally built out completely and efficiently for the enjoyment and use of both our local citizens and tourists to our fine city, Chula Vista.Measure Q, Marijuana Business Tax
