The area of most concern to me is ensuring the health and safety of all people.  We must strive to improve care and improve health through the provision of health care education, disease management information and the all of the resources available through our work with our community partners. Wellness should become a focused state of mind for everyone. We must also address mental health with the same seriousness that we treat physical health.  Healthcare and best practices are rapidly evolving.  We cannot fall behind.  We must examine current practices which are most effective for population health management.  We must deploy a range of wellness initiatives to keep the community healthy, both mentally and physically.

Financial stability is part of a larger list of challenges that face the Healthcare District Hospital and Home Health Agency.  The finances of a hospital are often the most difficult to manage. Especially a district hospital that depends on diminishing revenues brought on by the many changes in payer allowances, diminishing insurance payments, unbudgeted expenses often brought on by regulatory changes.  Current collected district taxes are not enough to offset the financial burdens of a small rural hospital.  It is time for a comprehensive long term strategic plan which will require a high level of engagement which calls for a devotion of time, energy and hard work of the board. Each of us in the community is a stakeholder and strategic planning must be an overarching goal of everyone.

Governance and Leadership accountability.  The governing body has a responsibility to act in good faith, exercise proper care in decision making, conduct due diligence and act in the best interest of the healthcare district.  “What is needed now more than ever is leadership that steers us away from fear and fosters confidence”.   Excerpt Jimmy Carter 2016.   I have a track record of standing up for and safe guarding the public trust. The Mendocino Coast Hospital and Home Health provide vital services to the community and those services should never be placed at risk. I have an unwavering perseverance in my commitment to the ongoing future of MCDH and Home Health.  As a former Board member, I have worked diligently with great resolve to fulfil my oath of office and the responsibility that it bears.

If elected, please stand with me while I work with all board members, the hospital, home health, our community partners and for you, while we seek the best solutions to the District challenges now and for the future.   I respectfully ask for your vote on November 8, 2016.

Profesión:Community College Instructor

I am currently a part time instructor for Mendocino College. The skills I bring with this position are the ability to engage in critical thinking and problem solving with openness and respect for all participants. In addition, I have been a member of the Board of Directors for the Point Cabrillo Light Keepers Association since 2000. I have been the President of the PCLK Board since 2012. During this time I helped manage a $4 million restoration project that required reporting to two State agencies. More importantly, I helped with community outreach and advocacy during several crises that affected the Light Station and the PCLK. From 1982 to 1994 I worked in several academic research laboratories where my duties included assisting with management of research grants and reports to Federal and private grant agencies.
