Filosofía política

With seven years on the planning commission, five as chair, I understand how city government works, what is expected of me, and I have good working relationships with city staff and our current council and planning commission. Having already worked effectively with the people and organization, I will be able to get up to speed quickly.

I’m a business owner and I know what it takes to succeed and run a successful business—especially during a rough economy. As a technology consultant, I bring valuable know-how as the City moves forward with updating its infrastructure and operations. As a community activist (which is what lead me to serving on the Planning Commission in the first place!), I understand the role regional commissions, state laws, and funding requirements play in our ability to get anything done locally. I am prepared to meet our challenges and have the energy to go the distance to bring needed resources and economic development to our community.

As a planning commissioner, Mike McGuire and James Gore’s appointee to the Sonoma County Economic Development Board, as one of the City’s appointees to Sonoma County’s Climate Action 2020, and having worked on local elections, I’ve built relationships within City Hall, the council, and throughout the region that are beneficial to our community. Having served on local boards and commissions, I understand that you are one person in a group of equals and that a solidly framed argument and persistence go a long way toward influencing the best outcome.

Because I own my own business, my schedule is flexible enough to serve at regular meetings, represent our community on regional boards, and make myself available as opportunities arise. I know going in what the demands on my time will be, and as a small business owner, have the flexibility and experience to set priorities and be in the room when decisions are being made.

I continue to be active in local policy development, including advocating for Community Separators as part of the Sonoma County General Plan, attending and contributing to City Council meetings, and working to solve local issues.

A love of history and understanding how things work led me to earn a bachelors degree in political science from Pepperdine University. Getting involved in Cloverdale's General Plan revision and Urban Growth Boundary led me to the Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy program to expand my knowledge of local government and I am a 2009 Fellow of the Leadership Institute for a Sustainable Future. In 2012, a passion for effective climate change policy led me to complete Vice President Al Gore's Climate Reality Project Climate Corp training.

This is just a little about me and why I'm running. Please don’t hesitate contact me with any questions. I humbly ask for your support, and most importantly, your vote.
