My Top 3 Priorities

  • HOUSING: creating more housing opportunities for Sonomans of all backgrounds
  • TRAFFIC: improve traffic and pedestrian circulation
  • WATER: developing sustainable infrastructure

Profession:Elder Law Attorney
Attorney, Law Office of Amy Harrington (2005–current)

UC Hastings College of the Law JD, Law (2005)
UC Davis BA, Political Science (1998)

I was born and raised in San Francisco.  My husband and I moved to Sonoma in 2010 because of  the physical beauty, easy access to the outdoors and the tight-knit community.

We have two daughters, aged 10 and 13. We can't imagine a better place to raise a family and are grateful that we live here.

I went to UC Davis for college and then to UC Hastings where I received my law degree.

For the last decade  have worked as an elder law attorney.

I primarily work on conservatorships (guardianship of incompetent adults), estate planning, trust and estate administration, elder abuse litigation and trust and will contests.

I help family members to ensure that they and their loved one's are protected during their lives and that their wishes are carried out after their death. For more information about my practice please see my website:

I also serve on the City of Sonoma's Community Services and Environment Commission.

When I'm not spending time with my family I love to run, ride my bike and work on my garden.

Whether you’ve lived here for generations, or just moved here, we all know Sonoma is a special place.  Our history, climate, economy and culture combine to create a unique, vibrant community.  It’s why my husband and I  decided to settle down and raise our two daughters here.

Sonoma is now at a crossroads.  The choices we, as a community, make during the next few years will create the Sonoma of the future.  Do we preserve the best qualities of our town for residents and visitors of every background and for future generations, or do we continue to fail to act and wind up with a community we don’t recognize?  It already takes 20 minutes to cross our small town in summer traffic. Our friends and relatives are forced to move away because they can’t find a home to rent, much less own.

We need to come together as a community and figure out how we want to manage growth, so that more of us can remain here, without sacrificing what we all love about Sonoma. We have to decide how we preserve our residents' quality of life while also being hospitable to the visitors that support our economy.

These are tough questions with no easy solutions.  Tackling them will require strong leadership, original thinking and common sense.  It will also require change.  Well meaning city councils of the past have left many issues unresolved and unexplored, which made our current challenges harder.

This is why I’m running.

As your city council member, I’ll help create bold solutions for these issues, including:

  • Creating more housing opportunities for Sonomans of all backgrounds
  • Improving traffic and pedestrian circulation
  • Developing sustainable infrastructure, with a special focus on water
  • Approving budgets that are balanced, efficient, accountable and fiscally responsible
  • Preserving Sonoma’s community character and strengthening our local quality of life

I’ll always be committed to progressive and innovative leadership that reflects our special town.  I’ll listen to your suggestions, criticism and ideas, and encourage input by either calling me(707.204.0906) or by emailing
