My Top 3 Priorities

  • AFFORDABLE HOUSING: We need to create opportunities that allow our neighbors to flourish and our children to live in the community in which they were raised. We need to grow our local economy & continue to find creative ways to add affordable housing
  • PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT: Sebastopol leads the county in its efforts to reduce greenhouse gases. Let's encourage residents to walk and bike for quick trips around town, and work to bring a recycling station back to Sebastopol.
  • SMART GROWTH: I support local business, innovation and well planned projects that serve the greater community and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Biography

About Neysa

Neysa Hinton is a third generation Sonoma County resident. Her grandparents moved to Freestone in 1945 to start a dairy farm. Neysa grew up in Sebastopol, where she attended Analy High School and, like many of her peers, worked part-time at Carlson’s Department Store. After graduation, Neysa attended college and pursued a career in radio that would span 25 years. She moved back to Sebastopol in 1997, got married, and started a family. Her two grown children, Jordan (Analy Class of 2011) and Jered, a senior at Analy High are Sebastopol natives.

In 2012, Neysa made the decision to pursue a career in service and became a licensed administrator. She is currently the Executive Director of Bello Gardens Assisted Living in San Anselmo, a facility for the elderly.  The work is both challenging and gratifying, and has given Neysa the opportunity to serve our seniors. On any given day, you can find Neysa engaged with staff,  residents, and their families, to address a diverse array of needs, and help to facilitate happy, fulfilling lives.

She has always had a passion to serve her community. Over the course of her life so far here in the West County, she has devoted countless hours volunteering on projects that benefit the city of Sebastopol and people who live here.

Her projects include helping launch Sebastopol’s Farm Market, and serving as its first chairperson. In 1990, Neysa was one of the first women invited to join the Sebastopol Rotary Club. For 21 years she has aspired to embody the Rotary Club’s “Service Above Self” motto, participating on various committees that include,  “Learn to Swim,” “Read to Me,” Community Grants, Student Exchange, and fundraising events, like the popular Lobster Boil and Cajun Festival.

In addition, Neysa served as Event Coordinator and Fundraiser for the Sonoma County Farmlands Group. This organization’s mission is to promote farmland preservation in Sonoma County through supporting land use and resource management policies, while expanding market opportunities for local farm products.

Finally, one her most rewarding volunteer experiences came about in 2007, when she was selected to lead a team of young professionals on a group exchange focused on health services and education in the Guanajuato, Mexico area. Living with local families to improve community services strengthened her faith in the ability of ordinary citizens to work together to create positive change and thrive.

Neysa would be honored to be of service to her home town of Sebastopol as a member of our City Council.

Issues

AFFORDABLE HOUSING. We need to create opportunities that allow our neighbors to flourish and our children to live in the community in which they were raised. We need to grow our local economy and continue to find creative ways to add affordable housing.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT. Sebastopol leads the county in its efforts to reduce greenhouse gases. Let's continue that effort by bringing a recycling station back to Sebastopol and encouraging residents to walk and bike for quick trips around the town.

SMART GROWTH. I support local business, innovation and well planned projects that serve the greater community and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

SAVE FOR A RAINY DAY. I believe we should continue to balance the city budget, as well as continue to set aside reserves in a rainy day fund for unforeseen expenses or a downturn in the economy.

POLITICAL REFORM. I believe that a healthy democracy should not be driven by how much money can be raised and ultimately spent by a candidate running for office. When I discovered that in all of Sonoma County only Windsor, Cloverdale and Sebastopol have no campaign limits, I thought change is needed.  In elections, money buys seats and influence. In the Sebastopol City Council race of 2012, a single candidate raised $35,000 in monetary contributions and in-kind donations - way more than the average citizen wanting to run for office could raise, and an unnecessary waste of financial resources that could be put to good use to benefit any number of causes in our community.   Therefore, I have taken a pledge to only except monetary donations up to $250.00 from any individual or organization.  This is a real grass roots campaign. I want to be elected by the people, without the influence of large amounts of money, so that I can serve in accordance with my values.
