My Top 3 Priorities

  • I believe that the district needs to be more reflective of the views of the community. For example, what goals do we have for our students and how best do we help them grow and develop.
  • My goal as a school board member would be as the conscience of the community. I would do that by being first and foremost, a listener.
  • It is critical that all aspects of the school district should be constantly evaluated, including the performance of the board. It is the board’s responsibility to communicate why certain decisions are made and the results of those decisions.

Political Philosophy

I believe that the district needs to be more reflective of our community.  For example, what goals do we have for our students and how best do we help them grow and develop.  An example might be how to evaluate the importance of shop classes in the High School.  Examples of questions we should be asking ourselves are:  how integral could we make IT classes in the curriculum, how do we choose what school facilities to build and how they are maintained, how do we support teachers in bringing excellence into their classrooms?   It is critical that all aspects of the school district should be constantly evaluated, including the performance of the board.  It is the board’s responsibility to communicate both as to why certain decisions are made and the results of those decisions.  An open dialog with the community is essential.

My goal as a school board member would be as the conscience of the community.  I would do that by being first and foremost, a listener.  Although there are many differing opinions on any single topic, we cannot hope to learn, grow, and use our resources most effectively without evaluating the merits of all opinions.

Another focus that I would have is with regard to local resources.  I believe we have valuable local resources that are not being utilized to the full extent possible.  We are blessed to live in a community that is rich in spirit and volunteerism, I would hope to harness that energy and enthusiasm for the benefit of our students and schools.
